Welcome to Lightcatcher Retreat

Set on ten and a half wooded acres just thirty minutes from Capitol Hill and Washington, D.C., this modern tree house is perfect for those who want proximity without congestion. The home is ideal as a weekend retreat or for year-round residence.  Enjoy a morning stroll through the nature trail, read a book on one of the decks, nap in the hammock, take a dip in the hot tub, stargaze or watch the sun painting blossom and flicker.

An award-winning architectural home, McInturff Architects worked with a local artist and an astronomer to design and build the house around an art installation that captures and projects the sun's rays onto the south canvass wall during the autumn and winter months. The focus here is on year-round indoor/outdoor living with nature as the star.

The cabin in the woods has gone modern while maintaining some essential rustic elements.  The two-story wall of glass brings nature indoors, while the wood stove in the center of the main living area has been a staple of cottage and cabin retreats for centuries.  The architect's decision to bring elements of the exterior construction (asphalt shingles and corrugated metal shutters) into the interior space further blend the indoor and outdoor spaces and keep you in tune with nature whether seated in the living room or on the porch.
